David, a self-described practical mystic, was a key player in the early years of the community at the Park in Findhorn, and pioneered the shift towards spiritual education that continues to this day.

He was a co-director of the community with Peter Caddy for two and a half years, before returning to the United States in 1973 to form the Lorian Association, where he remains the spiritual director.
