Northern Lights over Findhorn

Celestial fireworks danced over The Park in May, on a weekend when the Northern Lights were seen as far south in Britain as Cornwall.

The lights, called Aurora Borealis, are caused when charged particles from the sun's atmosphere enter the earth's atmosphere, borne on solar winds. The wavy green, purple and red lights are caused by the lines of force in the Earth's magnetic field. This particular display was due to unsettled geomagnetic conditions as we enter a period of unusually high solar activity in 2024-2025.

Whatever the science, the lights were magical. These images, taken by community member Adele Napier on 10-11 May 2024, show the lights – and even some angels – dancing over The Park.
